Quick answers to the most common questions about ReceiptJar.
ReceiptJar extracts data conservatively. If a field cannot be identified with confidence, it may be left blank.
Vendor mistakes are especially frustrating, so ReceiptJar may prefer leaving vendor empty over guessing.
You should always review and verify before export.
Does ReceiptJar export to Excel?
ReceiptJar exports CSV. CSV opens in Excel and Google Sheets and is the most portable format for importing into bookkeeping systems.
How do I open the CSV in Excel without breaking columns?
If your data appears in a single column, use Excel’s import flow (Data → From Text/CSV) so Excel can split columns correctly.
Is this “accurate” or “tax-ready”?
No. ReceiptJar extracts and formats data to save time, but you must review and correct results before use.
Why is the vendor sometimes missing?
Receipts vary widely. When uncertain, ReceiptJar may leave the vendor blank rather than guess.
What receipts work best?
Clear photos or PDFs with printed text. Glare, blur, low resolution, handwriting, or wrinkles reduce reliability.
Do you store my receipts or data?
No. ReceiptJar does not create accounts and does not retain receipt history. Uploaded files and generated data are automatically deleted after 30 minutes.
What if the output is unusable?
Try a clearer image (better lighting, flatter receipt, higher resolution). If it’s still unusable, don’t rely on the output. Manual review is expected.
Can I upload invoices, bank statements, or contracts?
No. ReceiptJar is designed for individual purchase receipts. Other document types often produce poor results.
ReceiptJar is a one-time session tool. Keep the tab open while you work.
